Harvey Raymond Umholtz was baptized on 23 October 1904 in St Paul's (Artz's) Church, Sacramento, Schuylkill Co., PA. He married Jean Brown circa 1924. He was owner of Sommer Maid Creamery in Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA. Harvey Raymond Umholtz married Hilda Moyer after 1928 in PA. Harvey Raymond Umholtz died on 2 January 1957 in Perkasie, Bucks Co., PA, at age 52.

Heinrich Umholtz (1812) died in 1829 in Mifflin Township, Dauphin Co., PA.

IMHOLTZ - OMHOLTZ - UMHOLTZ

Henry Umholtz, with a younger brother, came to this country from Switzerland, prior to the Revolution, and located in what is now Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, along the base of Short Mountain, about two miles from Gratztown, where John Umholtz now resides. Here they took up quite a large tract of land and commenced farming. The brother entered ther army at the outset of the war of the Revolution, in Capt. William Hendricks' company, and fell in the assault on Quebec.

Henry was also in service during the war as appears by the rolls of Captains Hoffman and Weavers companies.

The family of Umholtz have all been substantial and representative farmers of the Valley, and we present the foregoing to show how faithfully they have preserved their genealogical record, as an incentive to many others to do likewise.                                                                                (Notes and Queries - William H. The earliest record to be found concerning Henry Umholtz, who settled in the Lykens Valley, is found in the Swatara Reformed Church Records, at Jonestown, Lebanon County, PA. As to when Henry arrived in this country is not known. It would have been prior to 1763.

Henry's son, Jacob, was born in Lebanon County in 1766 and their son, Michael, was born in Mifflin Twp., Dauphin County, in 1776. Obviously, they came to this are between 1766 and 1776.

Henry had service in the Revolution while living in Lykens Twp. as he appears on both the rolls of Captain John Hoffman's unit and also on the rolls of Captain Michael Weaver. He and John Peter Williard served at Valley Forge together under Gen. George Washington.

Henry married about 1763, since the first baptisms to be found, in the Jonestown Church, lists a son Henry born 1764 and another son Jacob born 1766. Both of these merely state to Henry and wife, although the sponsors for Henry Jr. are William Rauch and Barbara Rauch. It's very likely this son Henry died, since there is a later person by the same name. Possibly, Jacob also died since there is no indication that he came to the Lykens Valley with the family.

The next baptisim found in the book is for John, a son of Henry and Margaret, who was baptized August 30, 1770. Also, at the same church is Bernard, baptized September 22, 1772. It is known that Margaret was nee Rauch. After her death Henry married Magdalena Seidensticker of Bethel Twp., the sister of Philip, since she is listed in his will in 1809. Henry and both his wives are presumed buried at the Hoffman Church Cemetery, RD, Lykens, PA.
He lived to an old age and died not too long before some of his sons.
                                        
It is stated that all "UMHOLTZS" in the US can be traced back to Henry.     

Henry's younger brother entered the Revolutionary War at the outset (April 1775). He was killed in the Battle for Quebec on December 31, 1775 as he was raising the colonist's flag. The battle was fought by the men under the commands of Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold. The American Revolutionary Army invaded the province of Quebec which is on the edge of the St. Lawrence River, situated 300 feet above the river's level on the north shore. The Americans surprised the British by coming up the river and scaling the sheer mountain ridge. However, they were unsuccessful in their attempt to capture the city.

     Helen Irene Umholtz was born on 25 June 1907 in Gratz, Dauphin Co., PA. She was the daughter of Milton Oliver Umholtz and Sallie Louise Klinger. Helen Irene Umholtz was baptized on 31 August 1907 in Simeon Lutheran Church, Gratz, Dauphin Co., PA. She married John Freeman Kissinger, son of Harvey Freeman Kissinger and Abigail Johanna Miller, on 24 December 1938 in PA. Helen Irene Umholtz died on 24 March 1985 in Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, Dauphin Co., PA, at age 77. She was buried after 24 March 1985 in Simeon United Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gratz, Dauphin Co., PA.
