She was named Henrietta Mackey "Attie Ellen" at birth, but her name was changed to Iona Maye Virkus after being adopted by Albert Theodore and Marie Beatrice Veronica Virkus in 1921. She was the daughter of Fred C. Mackey and Vera Elmira Grissom. Ione M. Virkus married Adolph Carl Eichler on 27 July 1935 in South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN. Ione M. Virkus died on 11 June 2002 in Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Co., MI, at age 89. She was buried after 11 June 2002 in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sodus, Berrien Co., MI.

Virkus married Alinda Alma Schultz circa 1935. Robert A. Virkus married Edna Pauline Weber on 24 March 1946. Robert A. Virkus died on 9 May 1992 in Holiday, Pasco Co., FL, at age 77.
