Obit in Austin Amer of 12 May 1971 (Austin Statesman micro-
film missing, Austin Public Lbr): "Carl E Clinger, 69, of
1704 Alameda Drive, died Tuesday (i.e. 11 May) in a local
hospital. He was a retired engineer with 33 years of service with
the State Highway Dept. After retirement he was employed by
the Travis County clerk's office for seven years. He was a
member of Hill City Lodge No 456 AF & AM; also Austin Scottish
Rite Bodies; and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Amy Clinger; a daughter Mrs
Margie C Ferris; a son Charles E Clinger, all of Austin; four
sisters, Mrs Addie Johnson and Mrs Hattie Pittman, both of
Austin; Mrs Lillie Thomas, Wichita Falls, and Mrs Hazel Weir,
Indianapolis Ind; a brother R H Clinger, of Dallas, and seven
grandchildren.
"Funeral is tentatively set for 2 p m Friday (i.e. 14 May) at
Wilke-Clay Funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery."
