     Joel Elmer Daniel (WW-I) was born on 14 June 1878 in Lykens Township, Dauphin Co., PA. He was the son of Joel Daniel and Caroline Klinger. Joel Elmer Daniel (WW-I) was baptized on 4 August 1878 in Simeon Lutheran Church, Gratz, Dauphin Co., PA. He married Mary Rissinger, daughter of Daniel Reissinger and Amelia Koppenheffer, on 20 August 1898 in Reformed Church, Hegins, Schuylkill Co., PA, by Rev. O. F. Shaeffer. He served in World War I. He died on 31 Oct 1918 in Gratz, during the 1918 Flu Epidemic after World War I. Joel Elmer Daniel (WW-I) was buried on 2 November 1918 in St. Matthew's (Coleman's) Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, near Spring Glen, Dauphin Co., PA.

Joel Elmer and Mary lived in Gratz where their seven children were born. He was a laborer and did odd jobs and later had a store on Market Street. His daughter, Nettie Daniels Chubb, said at the store there was a large round table to the right of the door as you entered, with a hoop of cheese in the center and chairs around the table. Customers would sit around the table and eat cheese and crackers and tell stories. Nettie also said he had a produce wagon and huckstered in the Gratz area.
