A deed, dated June 8, 1809, recorded March 15, 1811 and filed November 13, 1811 in Randolph Co. (later changed to Jasper Co.), GA. shows that Bartlett Eaves, Millwright, had bought land from Thomas Robinson. (*Note: Thomas Robinson was in Rutherford Co, NC as proved by a deed dated 1803 that shows him as a chain bearer for the crew that surveyed land which Bartlett Eaves was purchasing. Evidently he had gone on to GA and purchased land before 1809. In 1809 Bartlett Eaves sold land in Rutherland Co., NC to James Shearer and land to James English. In 1810 Bartlett Eaves sold land in Rutherland Co., NC to Amos Wall and sold more land to James English. A deed which shows Thomas Davis signed over a lease to Graves Eaves on October 15, 1811 for value received. Dated October 15, 1811, recorded January 17, 1812: Witnessed by Cornelius Autrey and Able Lewis Eaves. Census of Free Whites and Slaves in Perry County, AL: (1) Bartlett Eaves 1st age 60-70 (2) Graves Eaves 4th, age 40-50 (3) Burrell Eaves, age 30-40 (4) Howard Harvey Eaves, age 40-50. Bartlett may also have married Nancy Elizabeth Thompson. Bartlett 1st does not appear on the 1840 Census record of Perry Co, AL. He died after 1831 in Perry Co., AL, There are no records of Bartlett after the 1830 Census of Perry Co., AL, but it is assumed that he died in Perry County, AL.

Religious Beliefs: The Eaves families were actively involved in the early Primitive Baptist Churches in America. There are early church records that show Bartlet Eaves and family were members of Primitive Baptist Churches in GA and AL. Graves Eaves 4th and sons Jesse B. and Isaac S. were ordained Deacons and Graves was a close friend of Isaac Suttle, a licensed Minister of the Gospel in GA and AL.

Military records show that Barlett's sons, Bartlett, Howard and Burrell Eaves were soldiers in the war of 1812. The record lists Bartlett and Howard, but there is only a notation of Burrell's participation. From these records there were five young men named Eaves in Jasper Co, GA in 1811 and 1812: (1) Bartlett 1st (2) Graves (3) Abel Lewis (4) Howard (5) Burrell 2, 3, 4 & 5 were probably the sons of Bartlett 1st Howard Harvey Eaves appears on the 1840 census of Marengo Co, but by 1850 he was in Pontotoc Co, MS. The other four, Able Lewis, Bartlett 2nd, Burrell and Jesse Berryman were in Texas by 1835, where all of them received land grants from the 'Republic of Texas'. Copies of those of Abel Lewis and Bartlett are included here. Whether or not they ever lived on these grants is not known. Jesse Berryman and Burrell settled on a bluff above the Neches River in the vicinity of the present town of Beaumont, TX. By 1840 Abel Lewis, Bartlett and Jesse Berryman had come back across the Sabine River to LA. The family legend is, that during the Texas Revolution they feared for the safety of their families and brought them to an area not involved in the war. Abel Lewis settled in Natchitoches (now Sabine) Parish. Bartlett settled in Calcasieu (now Beauregard), Jesse settled in Calcasieu (now Cameron). If Burrell ever came back to LA, he later returned to TX and settled in San Augustine Co. Burrell Eaves received a land grant to more than 4000 acres) For further information see the 'Eaves Family Records.'
