S.G. Eaves enlisted into service of the Confederate States Army in 1861. He was living in Fearin Springs, Winston County, MS and enlisted in the 5th Miss. Regiment. in July 1861. His Captain's name was A.G. Reed. He was discharged in July/August 1864 because he was severely wounded.He enlisted again in the 11th Miss. Calvary. He was wounded on April 6, 1862 and again on June 29, 1864. (Wounded at Chicamauga and at a battle in Tenn.)He was in service in Alabama when the war ended in 1865.

He was buried after 29 November 1932 in Bryan City Cemetery, Bryan, Brazos Co., TX, Samuel was an invalid for many years and was confined to his bed as a result of a paralytic stroke. His wife, Gussie, died on July 11, 1929. He died on November 29, 1932. They were both buried in the Bryan City Cemetery, although no stone is present there.
